I love how you move from idea to idea, all with the same destination, yet with separate ideas to ponder along the way. When I was a little girl my parents, including my-dad-the-mapmaker, would discuss the importance of the "correct exposures," which I found mysterious. In the two homes I've owned, the exposures were both eastern. In the first, in Chicago, the tall living room windows twelve stories up looked out over the lake to the east and a large three-part bay window looked out over the city to the south, so the living room was flooded with egg-yolk light, but the bedroom, down a hallway, had southern light, which was not inspiring; in the second, in San Francisco, the morning light flooded into the tall curved windows seven stories up in the bedroom, as well as into the living room just to the south of the bedroom along a curved wall looking out over the San Francisco Bay. I woke to morning light, made tea in the open kitchen gazing at morning light, and sat in a chaise in morning light to read the news. Some mornings, the reflection of the light off the bay amplified it. That morning light made all things seem possible. I'm looking for an urban place to buy. My primary requirements are an uplifting city view (no walls of other structures), a gas stove, and most important of all, an eastern exposure. I am happy to think of you with yours. (Regarding being an other, I've spent my life being one by ancestry and temperament. No one could use me as the standard demographic, which took me years to figure out. It's so familiar now, I prefer it.) xo.Katherine C.
