The eagle has landed

J is home from Vietnam, and all kinds of gifts wrapped in newspaper are being unearthed from his suitcase. I have tiny little Kwan Yins and Buddhas and a beautiful red silk shawl. He is thin and brown, and smiling, and when I look at him I feel warm and cozy, as if I'm on an advert for Cadbury's drinking chocolate.

Many of my old colleagues from BWA days were here last night for dinner, about twenty of us. It was bliss seeing everyone again and we laughed until we cried. I feel so ridiculously fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful people. Ridiculously so.

Noons is off working on his robot for tomorrow's competition & Minks is off to a Bar Mitzvah tonight. She and her friend Maddie persuaded a lady at the make-up counter at Saks to commit slow murder by maquillage. With her newly glittering green eyes, it's becoming more and more apparent that a teenager is about to burst out of its leggy cocoon. Any moment now I'm going to be called upon to wield the curling iron.

J sits next to me downloading photos and video from his trip. It is good to have him home.
