From East Coker (Four Quartets)
Thank you for this, Mr Stuart:
Dawn points, and another day Prepares for heat and silence. Out at sea the dawn wind Wrinkles and slides. I am here Or there, or elsewhere. In my beginning.
This is my absolute favorite passage from the Quartets. I recite it to myself perhaps five or more times a day. There is something truly hopeful and awesome (in its purest sense) about the line, "In our beginning." We begin and begin again, over and over, always learning, always growing, like green shoots on bamboo.
