Wildflowers

From the LA Times:

For wildflower watchers, the most recent field notes posted by Mike Powell at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve were just another reason to ignore the high price of gas and head out to the high desert.

"In the five years that I have been working at the Reserve, I don't recall seeing as many red maids, blue dicks, or even the slender keel fruit as there is this year; even now," Powell wrote. "On Saturday morning, I saw only two poppy blossoms driving along Lancaster Road. On Tuesday, all the slopes on the north side of the road had a scattering of poppy blossoms."
