From Mark: Marjory Collins

This just in from my friend Mark (a fellow Canyon-dweller). The photo is so lovely that I had to post it:

"I came across this photo while conducting research for a project.
The photo is of MARJORY COLLINS -- a famed photographer during a government photo project from 1935-1946. The self-portrait of Collins reminded me of the self-portrait you posted on your blog (attached) a while back. Below is an excerpt about the all of the FSA (Farm Security Administration) + OWI (Office of War Information) photographers. Good overview of the project -- as well as mention of Collins work.
Between 1935 and 1946 a group of photographers working for the federal government fanned out across the country to record American life in pictures. Among them were some of the great documentary photographers in American history--including MARJORY COLLINS, Jack Delano, Sheldon Dick, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Ben Shahn, and Marion Post Wolcott. This massive photographic project, carried out primarily under the auspices of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) and the Office of War Information (OWI) and later preserved at the Library of Congress, was unrivaled in scope: no comparable attempt to document life in this country has ever been made.

Just thought the similarity of the two photos was unique."
