Tree of Knowledge threatened

Niedzwetsky apples, the first wild apple tree and commonly believed to be the Tree of Knowledge in the book of Genesis, is under serious threat of extinction due to destruction of wild fruit and nut forests in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan). Apricot, almond, cherry and walnut trees are also at risk. Only 111 Niedzwetsky (malus niedzwetzkyana) apple trees are still in existence.
