the madness, the melancholia

I have forsaken you for over a week.
It was an indulgence.
A short holiday with my mother and son and best friend (and son's godfather).
I didn't write for a full eight days.
But I read -- Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby), Colum McCann (Let the Great World Spin), Graham Greene (The Comedians); more about all of those later.
I leave you with this:

“Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those, who do not write, compose, or paint can manage to escape the madness, the melancholia, the panic fear, which is inherent in a human condition."

-- Graham Greene

Sounds like a lovely interlude. Open skies and a suitcase full of books, oh so good for the soul. Welcome back!

Welcome back. I have found it hard to return after taking care of my stepfather. And that was smallish, compared to what you went through. Take your time. I should have taken more time off myself.
