I don't know how, now, 24 hours after the fact, I can still tear up listening to "My Guitar Gently Weeps" after seeing the Cirque Du Soleil Love show inspired by the Beatles' music. The music, gently and reverently remastered by Sir George Martin and his son Giles, is a feast of beauty with its orchestrations. You can listen to some of the songs here.
Critics don't cry and they try really hard not to get hung up in the things they're reviewing. Andrea, Mr Smith & I were standing up at the end, clapping our hands, smiling so broadly our faces may have cracked and singing "All you need is Love" extremely loudly. Andrea was even High-5ed by exiting performers. We thrust double fisted Peace signs in the air and wiggled our bums in excitement. But here, for the more reserved, is the last line of Phil Gallo's Variety review: Evening closes with a sing-along, clap-along, feel-good trio of "Hey Jude," the reprise of "Sgt. Pepper" and "All You Need Is Love." It delivers the goods in the manner of the best Vegas shows: The senses are overloaded, spirits are high, and there's an urgency to spread the word.
PS. Please notice the use of the excellent TFF drum break/rallantando on "Octupus' Garden." I'm not sure if TFF borrowed it from the Beatles, or vice versa, but it's very obvious (and quite brilliantly used).
