Verdant living: the clothes line

I'd forgotten about the magnificent bleaching properties of the sun until I hung out some white t-shirts with pesky spots on them to dry. J is installing a clothes line, finally, in the garden, so I don't have to hang things on the bamboo using wire hangers from the dry cleaner. According to the Green Guide, this does wonders for one's carbon footprint, too! Also of note is grist.org thanks to a piece in the NY Times yesterday.

This all seems very silly, the startling news that drying one's laundry in the sun is environmentally friendly. When did we forget that? I grew up with a clothes line; on the side of the vegetable garden by the gooseberries. My mother still doesn't own a tumble dryer, in fact.
