This is from Tristan Gooley, author of "The Natural Navigator":
I like to revel in the spring equinox itself, so on March 20 this year, I am looking forward to climbing to the top of a hill with an uninterrupted view to the east to catch the sun rise. In midsummer the sun rises in the north-east and in midwinter in the south-east, but the spring equinox is one of only two days in the year when it is possible to catch the sun rising due east or setting due west – the only other one being the autumnal equinox. It is a day worth celebrating because it’s a day when everyone on Earth has to share a roughly equal amount of day and night.
