Too young to die

I don't really know what to say.  It's hard to process the news today that Sally Menke has died, on a hiking trail in Griffith Park, with her dog by her side.  People are posting "Hi Sally" videos from Quentin's films which are, in context, completely heartbreaking.  She was Quentin's collaborator, co-conspirator and friend. He loved her.  We all adored her.  Please send out special prayers for Dean and the children. (Her daughter and mine are school friends). She was a lovely, kind, funny, super-talented person. Too young to die. Just awful.

My thoughts go out to you and all who loved, knew and worked with her. It goes without saying that to lose the ones you love is awful. When they are taken suddenly or too soon it becomes something else all together, sometimes far more complex to process.

With much love xx

Oh Miss Whistle...

I keep hearing Auden's poem in my head...

"Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good."

I send my heartfelt condolences to everyone who loved her. It's just not fair.
