Fragile

"It occurs to me that the peculiarity of most things we think of as fragile is how tough they truly are. There were tricks we did with eggs, as children, to show how they were, in reality, tiny load-bearing marble halls; while the beat of the wings of a butterfly in the right place, we are told, can create a hurricane across an ocean. Hearts may break, but hearts are the toughest of muscles, able to pump for a lifetime, seventy times a minute, and scarcely falter along the way. Even dreams, the most delicate and intangible of things, can prove remarkable difficult to kill."

Wonderful quote. I dated an Italian man just before I met my British, (now ex) husband. The Italian man said I reminded him of glass because I was simultaneously strong and fragile. I love that image, and I think he was right. Eggs and hearts can be the same.

Good morning and wow! I read every word and all resonated in my 59 year old heart and mind. Thank you for your insights and being full on today. I especially am grateful for the ladies and troubles truth telling episode. Oh yes, been there. All that arm touching to bring you in the fold before they go for your throat....wine or no wine. Lunch yesterday was an excruciating plate of brunch with a stranger..no sparks..no full on. I have learned to tell myself even in such times, and to mean it as often as I can, that life is interesting. And we are lucky women to understand this. Thank you for your writing. I live in the cold regions of Canada and love the warmth emanating from you in beautiful California. Happy Sunday! Deborah
