Vegan till Suppertime

I'm somewhat ferocious in my dislike of dieting but I'm rather a fan of the clever Mark Bittman from the New York Times. His Bitten blog is a staple for schoolnight dinners and who can resist his 101 quick summer meals. I was interested to hear that he lost 35lbs on the I'm-a-Vegan-till-6pm diet, which is exactly what it sounds like. He says:

My arrangement with myself is that from the time I wake up until dinner I eat only fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. I don’t even eat white bread during the day. And then starting at dinner, I do. I have one meal a day when I do pretty much what I want, which is normally quite indulgent.

Isn't this a perfectly excellent idea?

I like this idea very much. Thadeus' friend who came home for Spring Break cooked delicious vegan food for us. If I had a personal chef it would not be hard to become a vegan I think!j

It hadn't occurred to me, but that's almost what I do if I diet - the only animal product I eat during the day is some plain yoghurt because I don't normally use milk and I eat no cheese if I'm dieting (which is sheer hell on earth) so I do it for the calcium. It's a good idea.
