Be kind. Please.

"Oh I used to be disgusted
and now I try to be amused. "
-- Elvis Costello
Maybe it's the rain, but I'm feeling disgusted.  It's not an emotion I'm used to.  People describe me as "sunny" but today, ladies and gentlemen, we have what may be described as a situation.

Los Angeles is a small town.  Everyone knows each other. Especially in the movie industry. And, apparently, people talk. Like they're still in high school.
"I never said I was a victim of circumstance
I still belong, don't get me wrong
You can speak your mind
But not on my time"
-- Billy Joel
Maliciously. And without facts.

The truth is, dear reader, I have a close girlfriend who has been iced out -- as if she were in the film "Heathers" -- by a group of catty, small-minded idiots who've decided that they know better.  And she has been iced in such a way that I fear for her mental health in what has been for her a perfectly hideous year.

You know who you are.  Ask yourself, is this really what she would have wanted. Is it? Really?

It is not my desire to be hideously enigmatic. I apologize for that. I will elucidate as soon as I am possibly able to do so.

For now, please remember to be kind. Isn't that all we, in our frail humanity, can do? I may get a prize for quoting Elvis Costello, Billy Joel and Plato in one breath, but here goes.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.”
-- Plato

Life's too short to be complicated unnecessarily.

I feel sorry for those individuals who would rather judge than accept. They set the tone for others to reciprocate in kind and live miserable shallow lives. Tell your friend to stop listening to the noise and start listening to her heart beat. That is joy in itself.

I hope my friend will read your lovely, kind and supportive comments and see how much love there is out there. Thank you.

At this point I have to quote EM Forster, which I do most weeks: kindness, kindness and yet more kindness. Also the thing I think of in these contexts is: living well is the best revenge. So much better to be your lovely friend than the fiendish cold-hearted vixens who think they are so clever. Imagine them having to face their cold reflections in the glass each morning.

Love from Scotland xx

Meant to say: ADORE the Plato quote.

Your friend is lucky to have a quality friend like you in her court. Sadly, people who behave like this do not enjoy the benefits of living with lovingkindness. They are sort of lost and disconnected. Pity them, forgive them and move on.

You really are remarkable to stick up for someone like that. And you are completely right; this town is full of small people. Love live your big heart.

That would be: LONG live your big heart.
